The future of aviation starts with the next generation of innovators.

STEM Day brings students from participating schools to Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport for a hands-on day of exploration, discovery, and learning. Through interactive activities led by aviation, engineering, technology, and education partners, students will experience STEM concepts in action and get a firsthand look at the people and technologies shaping the future of flight.

As advanced air mobility and aviation continue to evolve, building the workforce to support that future starts today. STEM Day gives students the opportunity to explore where their interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can take them — and discover careers they may not have considered before.

HOw it works

STEM Day is designed to keep students moving, engaged, and working together throughout the day. Students will be divided into teams and rotate through each of the interactive stations, earning points as they complete challenges and participate in activities.

Each station offers a different way to learn and compete — from engineering challenges and aviation activities to technology and problem-solving. Teams will track their progress throughout the day, putting their skills, creativity, and teamwork to the test.

At the end of the day, we'll bring everyone together to recognize the teams and celebrate their accomplishments.

Students will be divided into teams and rotate through five interactive STEM experiences throughout the day. Each station offers a new challenge and an opportunity to earn points for their team through problem-solving, creativity, teamwork, and participation.

12:00 PM — Lunch (on us)

STEM Day is coordinated directly with participating schools, creating a structured field trip experience where students can learn alongside their classmates, teachers, industry professionals, and STEM educators.

Throughout the day, students will rotate through interactive stations designed to connect what they learn in the classroom with real-world aviation and technology.

  • Experience the future of flight through technology. Students will take on a flying car video game and drone soccer while exploring concepts like teamwork, technology, and problem-solving.

  • Get up close with real aircraft and discover what makes flight possible. Students will explore aircraft, aviation history, and the technology behind the machines that take us into the sky.

  • Put engineering skills to work through hands-on challenges. Students will experiment, collaborate, solve problems, and discover that sometimes the best way to learn is to try, fail, and try again.

  • What will transportation look like 10, 20, or 50 years from now? Students will explore advanced air mobility and use an interactive mapping activity to imagine how new forms of transportation could connect people and communities.

  • There is an entire world behind every flight. Students will step into the world of airport operations and discover how communication, coordination, technology, and decision-making come together to keep an airport moving.
