The Springfield-Beckley Municipal Airport complex covers 1,800 acres and features a 225 square mile Beyond Visual Line of Site (BVLOS) flight range managed in partnership with the Ohio UAS Center and Air Force Research Laboratory. The airport is also home to a joint military base with the Ohio ANG-178th ISR Wing and divisions of the Ohio Army Guard and Reserve. In addition, the airport boasts an adjoining 190 acre shovel ready business park, that is well suited to accommodate scaled manufacturing facilities in support of the AAM industry .
In 2021, the airport became the nation’s first general aviation airport to offer eVTOL recharging stations in partnership with BETA Technologies and hosted eVTOL test flights in support of the AF Agility Prime program. The general aviation airport is well equipped with RNAV GPS approaches at each end of its two runways. Runway 6-24 is the 9,009' x 150' primary and Runway 15-33 is the 5,499' x 100' crosswind runway offering excellent landing opportunities in difficult weather conditions. The airport is centrally located between Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton Ohio - just 15 minutes east from Wright Patterson AFB.
The National Advanced Air Mobility Center of Excellence features 30,000 square feet of state-of-the-art collaboration space to aid in the advancement of AAM technology in support of Wright- Patterson AFB, AFRL, NASA the Ohio UAS Center, colleges, research institutions and private industry. The Center also houses 25,000 feet of hangar space. The NAAMCE provides participants with a collaborative environment in which companies can find support for aerospace research, design, validation, test and flight and training related to aircraft development. NAAMCE also supports various demonstration projects showcasing technologies that will advance AAM integration, beyond the aircraft itself.
